Short rows in double knitting are similar to standard short rows in that:
- you need to work a partial row only (remember to end on an opposite side stitch)
- you will pick up wraps (either knitwise or purlwise) (you will always pick up wraps in facing/opposite side pairs)
Where short rows in double knitting are a little different is in their method of wrapping stitches at the end of the short row.
Our photo tutorial below illustrates wrapping stitches for short rows in double knitting:
Step 1: After working specified number of stitches, bring both yarn strands to back. Be sure that you have ended with a stitch from the opposite side!
Step 2: Slip next st pwise, bring both yarn strands to front.
Step 3: Slip next st pwise, bring opposite-side yarn strand to the back of the work, leaving facing-side yarn strand to front.
Step 4: Return slipped stitches to left hand needle, keeping opposite-side strand to back of work and facing-side strand to front.
Step 5: Tighten yarn well and turn. Begin knitting instructions for the next row. |
